Cities & Canals with Dutch Bulb Fields

Join Balmoral for this rewarding, 10-night springtime escape and you’ll get to revel in the scenery of six different countries in Western Europe and Scandinavia. Throughout this absorbing itinerary, you can enjoy canal cruising on board your smaller sized ship and during time ashore, while there are iconic museums, famous landmarks and seasonal delights to discover too.

Visiting Antwerp for an overnight stay will provide the perfect start to your getaway, with plenty of time to explore the cobbled streets of Belgium’s beautiful second city and see the sights at your own pace. The mighty Cathedral of Our Lady and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts are among many gems to discover in Antwerp, a city famed for its legendary diamond district. No visit is complete without stopping by one of the friendly cafés and chocolate shops to sample authentic Belgian chocolate. It’s then on to the Netherlands and Amsterdam, the culture-rich Dutch capital. Highly recommended here is a boat tour of the city’s iconic canals, an enchanting way to see the grand structures of the UNESCO-listed Canal Ring. Amsterdam’s abundant attractions also include world-famous galleries and museums, such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, while the Keukenhof Gardens – where millions of tulips burst into their fragrant, colourful full bloom in the spring – is within reach too.

Sweden's Scenic Waterways & Cities

Cruising is undoubtedly the perfect way to appreciate Sweden’s spellbinding scenic beauty and cultural pleasures, and on this very special holiday – combining visits to captivating destinations with explorations of beautiful fjords and archipelagos – you’ll uncover some of the very best sights and experiences that this diverse country has to offer.

Thanks to Newcastle’s closer proximity to Scandinavia, most of your cruise will be spent discovering the best of Sweden, rather than sailing to and from this stunning country. After just one relaxing day at sea, you’ll marvel at the picture-perfect, idyllic scenes of the Swedish fjords before Malmö makes for an invigorating first stop on your journey. A culturally diverse, classically Swedish city, Malmö boasts a harmonious blend of old and new; charming historical sites including Malmöhus Slott Castle and the gothic-style Sankt Petri Church compete for your attention alongside modern marvels such as the Turning Torso – Scandinavia’s tallest building – here. Then, on the island of Gotland, UNESCO-listed Visby awaits. The wonderfully well-preserved Old City of Visby presents an interesting glimpse into Sweden’s Hanseatic history, with its merchants houses and magnificent churches. St Mary’s Cathedral and the ruins of St Nicolai and St Karin are not to be missed. Gotland’s glorious coastlines are yours to explore on tour from Visby too.

France & Belgium River Cruise

Whisking you away to Belgium and France to visit a trio of enchanting cities, Balmoral will present you with an array of diverse highlights on this spellbinding late summer escape. Cultural delights, iconic historical sites, architectural wonders and much more awaits you at each destination, while daytime scenic cruising of gorgeous rivers is bound to be your pièce de résistance.

You’re in for inspirational experiences throughout this eight-night holiday, starting with a journey through rolling French countryside – the perfect aperitif for an extended stay in Rouen. Spending several hours sailing the picturesque River Seine, you’ll pass peacefully by emerald green fields, hills and pretty communes, before Normandy’s historic regional capital beckons you ashore to explore. Rouen harbours tales of fascinating French history amongst its half-timbered houses and many landmarks – Place du Vieux Marché and the spectacular Cathédrale de Notre Dame are particular highlights, with links to Joan of Arc and Richard the Lionheart. Alternatively, you could tour to Claude Monet’s beautiful House and Gardens from Rouen; or even Paris, for a romantic evening in the French capital. Back along the Seine, Balmoral heads for charming Honfleur before continuing on to Belgium. Honfleur offers plenty to fill your day here, such as eye-catching landmarks such as St Catherine’s Church – France’s largest timber church – and the historic Vieux Bassin maritime district.
