The expert's experience: Megan and Joanne's trip to Bulgaria

Day 1

Travelling a day ahead of Joanne, Megan was the first to arrive at the resort. Upon arrival, she prepared herself to explore some of the most popular hotels around the resort. She described the Sentido Neptun Beach Hotel as being her favourite visit, mainly due to the pool having a picturesque seafront view.

After exploring the resort's establishments, she headed over to the hotel she was staying in, Laguna Park, and took advantage of some free time to sunbathe before the night's activities began.

When the evening came, Megan dined on some local speciality dishes at the hotel's all-inclusive restaurant before heading out for some entertainment at the resort. She enjoyed listening to a Freddie Mercury tribute act before deciding to wrap up the night with a trip to Nessebar to explore the area's scenic views.

Day 2

On day 2, Megan visited the former hotel Globus, now known as the Four Points by Sheraton which she admired for its striking decor. She described the interior as magnificent, combining modern and Scandinavian architecture with outstanding technological features.

Joanne arrived later on in the day and both consultants headed to the lively ‘Flower Street’ on the Sunny Beach resort, which is home to a wide variety of modern shops, bars, cocktail venues and popular night clubs and a fabulous beach that runs the full length of the resort.

Megan and Joanne later arrived at the Meliá Hotel after exploring the nearby area. Joanne described the hotel as ideal for families, having a variety of activities for small children and being located close to the resort and attractions. According to Joanne, this hotel in particular has “large well-appointed rooms and provides chocolates and wine on arrival for hotel guests."

Day 3

On the third day of the trip, the two met up with another group and visited some of Bulgaria's most famous luxury hotels. They travelled to the 5-star Secrets Hotel, the Aqua Nevis, Yunona, Sunny Day, Sunny Victory, and their personal favourite, the Voya Beach resort.

The pair were pleasantly surprised by the Voya Beach Resort, where they enjoyed everything from the drinks to the service to the breathtaking views. The resort was described by Joanne as a modern contemporary upmarket hotel that felt high-end and extremely luxurious.

Following their tour of the hotels, they visited Bar Mexo, which they described as having an incredibly chilled vibe, before watching the lightning display and enjoying the 'greatest strawberry daiquiris they had ever had' at Wayne's Viking Bar.

Day 4

Megan and Joanne spent the fourth day exploring the Hotel Selena in Sozopol and the Hotel Victoria in Nessebar.

When they arrived at the Hotel Selena, they were greeted with a traditional Bulgarian 3-course meal before learning about Bulgaria's history and culture from their appointed tour guide. In the afternoon, the pair travelled to Nessebar, where they visited the Hotel Victoria and described it as a scenic area that felt historically Bulgarian.

Megan and Joanne returned to the Melia in the evening for an Indian tea before embarking on a Sunny Beach bar crawl. Megan called their host Wayne "the best party host I'd ever seen," who found a way to get everyone up on the dance floor, especially when he was on the mic!

Day 5

On the last day of the trip, Joanne was able to visit the hotels that she missed on the first few days, including the Four Points Sheridan, the Laguna Park and the Kuban Hotel, before later meeting Megan to visit the Sol Marina Palace and Sol Nessebar resort.

The tour group dined on a delicious three-course dinner in a nearby restaurant before attending an awards ceremony hosted by Balkan Holidays that evening.

Megan said the following about her experience in Bulgaria: “Bulgaria has something for everyone! Whether you want to party in Flower Street, have a quiet visit to the old town or relax in one of the 5-star hotels. I absolutely loved the whole experience and have made some amazing friends throughout. I can’t thank the team at Balkan enough for providing an educational experience that has made me more confident in advising this destination.”

Joanne had this to say about her experience: “This destination would be perfect for everyone. I think the Sunny Beach resort would be perfect for families and those travelling in groups of friends, whilst Nessebar would be perfect for couples and older customers looking for a more historical feel. I had a terrific experience and would recommend Bulgaria to anyone looking for a scenic getaway.”
